Dujiangyan Winter Water Birds

With Dujiangyan just an hour and a half’s drive, the area provides some of the best daytrip watching for Chengdu birders. However, most birding attention has been focused on sites like Qingcheng Mountain, while other areas often go ignored. With species like wintering Ibisbill and Chinese Merganser to rivers and reservoir areas around the city also deserve to be top draw birding spots – for anybody making a winter trip to China, probably one of the easiest and most accessible Ibisbill sites in China.

The rivers coming from the north are good birding spots - stony riverbed making for Ibisbill habitat

The Chinese Merganser is a first year male.
